Parent Teachers Association
Tamahere parents and teachers working together
Help us help Tamahere School … more than just fundraising.
With your support we can share the load and have fun doing it!
‘Tamahere Model Country School gratefully acknowledges the significant and on-going contribution of our parents and wider community in supporting our school. These contributions greatly benefit our school and what we are able to provide for our students.’

How do we help?
The underlying role of the PTA is to support both the School Administration and the Board of Trustees in fulfilling their responsibilities. We do this by:
• Providing the links between the Board of Trustees, the parents and the wider community
• Helping to provide an environment which supports children’s learning
• Assisting with school activities, fundraising and minor maintenance of facilities. More information on this key part of the PTA contribution is outlined below.
Class representatives (2 for each class) support the PTA in reaching out to the wider school community, and welcoming new parents.
Money raised through our fundraising efforts is used to provide resources (including some basics) that are not funded by the Government as a result of its Decile 10 funding level. Additional commitment from its parents is relied on in order to support the School’s extensive learning programme, enjoy reduced class sizes and teacher aide support, and to maintain and develop our much valued School facilities.
How can you help?
We ask parents and caregivers if they would be able to help with some of the above activities by getting involved and having fun! Helping out at some of these events is also a great way to get to meet other members of the school community. Sponsorship of events is also valued.
If you think you may be able to assist in helping or being on a committee to organise any of the above, please respond to specific event requests, contact the office, email firstname.lastname@example.org or ask your class representative who to talk to!
You can find out more at our PTA meetings. Parents with new ideas and enthusiasm, or simply those who are interested in their children’s education who would like to support us in some way (or join the PTA team), are welcomed!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the PTA Representatives
Fundraising and support …it’s about a lot of people doing a little.
What will your contribution be this year?

Treasurer: Karen Higgenbottom
The PTA oversees several major fundraisers (some held bi-annually). The objective of these is to raise funds that will help enrich your child’s experiences and time spent at Tamahere Model Country School:
A new annual event and a chance for community members and business teams to enjoy a fantastically fun day out at a local golf club. Helpers are needed to sponsor holes, golf as a team on the day, and provide food and refreshments, or help with registrations.
Pumpkin Night is a community get-together held during Term 1. The evening’s main event is the weighing in of the pumpkins grown by our school children from seeds. Most families are involved either in set up, sponsorship, raffles, manning a stall or being part of the dedicated clean-up team!
Garden Ramble Tour
The Tamahere School Garden Ramble is a well-known event throughout the Waikato. It showcases beautiful gardens and homes and provides a great day out for everyone who attends!
Children’s Disco (school fundraiser)
Afternoon (Taupiri syndicate) and evening (Pirongia and Maungatautari syndicates) discos are fun social events our children look forward to each year. Typically there are two discos per year in Term 2 and Term 3. The PTA help set up the hall and supervise the children.
Items for Purchase
From time to time we offer the chance to purchase items such as family photo shoots, the Entertainment book, calendars, flower bulbs, etc.
Friday Coffee Morning
A few Friday mornings each term the PTA hold a coffee and tea get-together in the TCC. Often these are held before a special assembly, giving parents, especially parents new to the school, a chance to get to know one another.
Fancy a bit of competition? Teams start forming as soon as the theme is announced for this annual Term 3 event. Held in the TCC on a Friday night, everyone from the school and community is invited to come along and answer fun trivia questions. Prizes are given out for winners, best dressed, and on-the-spot challenges.
Tamahere Ball / Spring Fling
This wonderful event, held for the first time in Spring 2007 in our new community hall, was a howling success! We hope to hold another event this Spring (2012) under the theme “Spring Fling”. There will be music, dancing, drinks and nibbles and it promises to be a rollicking good time for all.!
The ball was also a great example of how a committed group of parents, not actively involved in the PTA, can bring an idea to fruition. Well done ball committee! Check out the Photos
While fundraising is a big part of what we do, it is not the only thing we focus on. We also run a number of community based activities – e.g. new parent coffee get-togethers. The PTA supports school community events such as:
Grandparents’ Day - Providing the refreshments for all those lively grandparents arriving to spend the morning with their grandchildren.
Agriculture Day- The PTA needs to set up the grounds so the children can showcase their groomed calves, lambs and kids.
Seven Aside Tournament- For the Maungatautari syndicate (Year 5/6 children), a cluster of schools meet, and our parents provide lunch.
Parent Teacher Interviews - The PTA co-ordinates the preparation a light meal for the teachers during the evening of interviews
Other Parent Duties:
There are also many other areas where parents contribute to the school outside the PTA umbrella. For example,
Scholastic Book Club
Sports committees and coaching
Sports day assistance
Professional/skilled or dogsbody support
Board of Trustees
